About Us
At CrossFit SY1 we aim to produce a broad general and inclusive fitness. Whether the goal is weight loss, increased strength, reduced body fat or improving your endurance, all can be achieved through our workouts. The idea of the program is to prepare people for any physical activity.

Dan
Trainer/Owner
I had been training for over 10 years but was becoming bored and frustrated with the lack of progress i was getting from the traditional split day training style. I was on holiday in 2011 when i saw the CrossFit games on ESPN America and couldn't believe the ability of the athletes. I researched CrossFit as soon as i got home and haven't looked back. In 2 years I lost 3st of bodyweight and was stronger and fitter than ever before. I enjoy the teaching methods of CrossFit, breaking a movement down to its progressions and ensuring the mechanics and form are correct. I learnt more completing my CrossFit Level 1 course than I had in years of previous training and now want to share this knowledge with our members.
Amy
Trainer/Owner
My CrossFit journey began in 2015 after several years of training in traditional gyms. When I switched to CrossFit, I quickly saw improvements in both strength and fitness. I also discovered a vibrant and supportive community at my box, where I went from hardly speaking to anyone during workouts to forming lasting friendships. The environment was unlike anything I had experienced before—welcoming, encouraging, and full of energy.
As my passion for CrossFit grew, I partnered with Dan and took the leap to become a certified Level 1 Trainer and CrossFit Kids Trainer. Today, as a proud mother of two, I find joy in carving out time for myself to train and catch up with my friends at the box.
I currently coach adult, teen, and kids’ classes, and I also offer 1-on-1 CrossFit skills coaching and bespoke personal training sessions to help individuals reach their full potential.

Magenta
Trainer
Hiya, I'm Magenta and have been training at SY1 for nearly 10 years now after becoming bored of the usual gyms.
You'll usually find me at the box upside down in a handstand or hanging from a bar as the gymnastics movements are my favourites.
I love the community at SY1 and decided to become a coach in 2023 to help other members grow and gain confidence moving weights, improving skills and reaching goals. Seeing someone lifting a weight they never thought possible or learning a new gymnastics movement is an amazing feeling. I'm still not a fan of the ski erg tho....

Adam
Trainer
Hi, I am Adam! I joined CrossFit SY1 in 2019. I love a challenge; I’ve cycled Lands end to John O’Groats, walked 50miles in less than 24hours and raced to the summit of the Wrekin carrying a barrel of beer. I believe there is little better than CrossFit to improve functional fitness to prepare you for any event! I love the community and friends I have made through CrossFit, and that some of them are willing to join me in my exploits!

Pete
Trainer
Hi, my name is Pete.
I came to CrossFit fairly late in life, but fell in love with the community, particularly at SY1.
I love nothing more than a long grindy chipper or AMRAP, and seeing the sweaty smiles of our members after they’ve left it all on the floor.

Rikki
Trainer
Hi, Im Rikki and have been participating in CrossFit since 2017 having spent the last few years at SY1. My favorite movement is a squat snatch but I’m game for all types of workouts, the sweatier the better. There’s nothing better than a sweaty post workout hug or high 5.

Miguel Ulloa
Calisthenics Trainer
Migs started doing Calisthenics in 2007 after his weight training was inhibited by a debilitating accident. He felt that bodyweight training was the best way to rehab and things just went from there.
In 2012 he started up 'Crazy 4 Calisthenics' with fellow Calisthenics coach Jay Anthony, creating an environment for all ages to enjoy bodyweight strength training and to learn new calisthenics skills and body control techniques.
